AI in the Modern World

AI is used in an enormous amount of modern applications, including, but not limited to:

  • Satallite Navigation Route Finding
  • Driving UAV's
  • Computer Games
  • Program Scheduling
  • Resource Monitoring and Allocation

In addition to this, it is also used in doing things such as this Mario AI that calculates the bath path to take in a game of Mario, and then controls the character to do it:

The other main area where you are likely to see AI on a day to day basis is in computer games, where the AI controls the enemy characters to provide the player with the impression that they are playing another person. While this is AI, it is a limited form of it, just like everything in use in teh current world, as it is designed to do one thing veyr well, as opposed to doing everything as well (if not better) than a human, which is the true goal of AI.

Last but not least are such examples as the Japanese ASIMO (a robot) that learns about its enviroment and reacts accordingly. The following video shows James May explaining all about the ASIMO and how it operates:
